With less than one month before the Southeast Missouri Redhawks travel to town for the University of Memphis football season opener, the Liberty Bowl staff is working around the clock to complete the Phase III Renovation Project.

The project includes:

City Council Resolution Items: $5 million dollar project

  • 5,000+ new chair back seats
  • New concourse LED lighting
  • Repainting all portals, interior concrete fascia, exterior of Press Box
  • Enhancement of Multipurpose Room
  • Addition of permanent exterior housing for Videoboard

Stadium Improvement Project: $530,000 of capital investment

  • New ticket office at Gate 4
  • Repainting of Pipkin Building interior and restrooms, new LED lighting
  • 230+ new POS (point of sale) machines, ability to take credit cards at all stands and portables

Deputy Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt and Liberty Bowl Stadium General Manager Thomas Carrier were at the Liberty Bowl to talk about the improvements to the stadium and what this means for the city.

The most impactful improvement would be the new chair back seats.  The seats are more spacious, comfortable, and convenient.  LED lights have been added to the Liberty Bowl concourse and to the Pipkin Building, which will be used for Alumni and Scholarship Fund tailgating.   Also, when you visit the concession stands you will now have the option to pay with paper or plastic.  THAT’S RIGHT!!! No more excessive ATM fees.  All of these improvements are right on time as the Big 12 situation continues to unfold.
