Grizzlies Dethrone The Kings

In game two of their five game  west coast road trip the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Sacramento Kings by 14 points (103-89).  I’m glad they got the much needed win, but that doesn’t erase the memory of the 50 point loss against the Golden State Warriors the night before.  That game will haunt the memory of Grizzlies fans all season long.  I can only think of two things that could ease our  concerns.  First thing is to put a good ole’ Beale Street Beatdown on the Warriors when they visit the Grindhouse next Wednesday.  Second thing is to get a win in Oracle Arena on April 9th, 2016.  This proves that we are capable of  beating them at home and on the road.

As I watched the Grizzlies play the Kings I had two consistent thoughts: “Now this IS Grizzlies basketball” and “Now, why couldn’t they do this against Golden State?”  The Kings didnt’t have Steph Curry.  Wednesday night the Kings had Darren Collison and the Grizzlies were able to limit his scoring to 18 points.  Rajon Rondo was held to five points in 26 minutes and 59 seconds.  The other Curry scored four points in three minutes.

JaMychal Green registered his first NBA double double, 12 points and 12 rebounds, Tuesday night against the Sacramento Kings.   Randolph tallied his second double double of the season with 20 points and 11 Z-bounds.  Courtney Lee added 14 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal to the Grizzlies winning efforts.  Gasol had eight points, two assists, two rebounds, and one block in the 17 minutes and 38 seconds he played before leaving the game with neck spasms.  Gasol goes out and Brandon Wright goes in.  Wright filled up the stat sheet scoring ten points, passed for three assists, grabbed six rebounds. and blocked four shots.  Last but not least, Captain Clutch Conley came through with 14 points, six assists, three rebounds, and one steal.

I wonder how are Ryan Farrar and his concerns knowing that Brandon Wright is a suitable back-up for Marc Gasol.  The Grizzlies are 1-1 so far on a five game west coast road trip.   The next stop on the road trip is Thursday in Portland to take on the 2-2 Trailblazers.  Zach Randolph always likes going to Portland.  One reason is that the Grizzlies usually win and he played the first six years of his career in Portland.  Due to creative contract structuring, still draws a check from the organization.  After Portland, the Grizzlies go to Utah and from there to Los Angeles to play the Clippers.

The Grizzlies return home next Wednesday to face the pesky Golden State Warriors.  As of now tickets to the game are still available for this redemption game.  Other single game tickets and season ticket packages are available.  For more information about attending a game at the Grindhouse you may dial 901-888-HOOP (4667) or click here.
