Grizzlies Fall To The Knicks

The Memphis Grizzlies are 1- 0 and the  New York  Knicks are 0- 1.  Not only did the Knicks  lose their first  game,  Courtney Lee was held scoreless, and Courtney Lee is playing against the team that  traded him last  season.  Lee redeemed himself in his second game  wearing the blue and orange, scoring 16 points against his former team.

Midway through the 1st quarter he Grizzlies are down 16 – 6. James Ennis picks up 2 early fouls and is replaced  by Vince Carter.  Troy Daniels and ZBo make their way into the game in the 1st quarter.  Jarrell Martin sees his first minutes of the season.   Grizzlie trail the Knicks 32 19 at the end of 1st quarter.

True the Knicks have a big named star studded  roster.  Watching the first quarter, the Grizzlies are playing like a team that doesn’t realize that they have earned   just as much if not more respect  that is automatically  given to the Knicks .

The Grizzlies struggled  to get within 10 points of the Knicks in the 2nd quarter.  Mike Conley finishes the 1st half on the bench.  Gasol is fouled in the  final seconds  of the 1st half, both free throws have Grizzlies trailing 49 57 at the half .  The Grizzlies close the gap by the end of  the 3rd quarter, 77 82.  Unable to get enough shots to fall, the Grizzlies lose to the Knicks 111-104.

I know Kanye said moral victories are for minor league coaches, however there are plenty of things for  Fizz’s Grizz and their fans to look foward to.   Jarrell Martin finished with 13 points in less than 13 minutes.  Martin spent the majority of his rookie year injured.  He was able to get some needed playing time towards of the end of last season.  Watching Jarrell in action against the Knicks put a smile on my face.  He  has height and speed, making him a very versatile weapon.

Although it’s only two games into the season, Z Bo is continuing his strong campaign for 6th man of the year.  We all were curious to see how Randolph would adapt to coming off the bench.  Zach knows he still has ‘starting five’ skills.  When you put Randolph up against another teams bench players, it’s an unfair advantage.

If the  Grizzlies wouldn’t have to fight from behind  for half the game, they’d probably have more check marks in the win column.
