HOW ‘BOUT THEM TIGERS?!?!?

This a a great time to be a Memphian.  When the sports teams are doing good there is always love in the city.  The Tiger football team is officially Bowl Eligible, it is expected that the Fizz’s Grizz make it to the post season, and Tubby’s Tigers are off to a good start.

The last time CBU and the U of M faced off in an exhibition game was 2014 and believe it or not the Bucs  had more points than the Tigers when time expired on the clock.  Hopefully, the Bucs savored that taste of victory against the Tigers because this year Markel Crawford and the Tigers are not interested in letting history repeat itself.  Whether they want to admit it or not, that 2014 had to serve as motivation in preparation for this years exhibition.

Four Tigers (Markel Crawford, Dedric & KJ Lawson, and Christian Kessee)  scored in double figures.  Crawford and the Lawson brothers scored 11 points each and Kessee scored 10.  Along with his 11 points Deedric Lawson  snagged 13 rebounds giving him the Tigers only double double.

The Tigers did a pretty good job defending the Bucs.  Alex Trentman scored 20 points but he was the only Christian Brothers player to score in double digits.

I was anticipating and impressed by the performance of Christian Kessee.  He has spoken so highly of his ability to shoot the three ball, I had to see it for myself.  Although he only made two three pointers, he was 50% from beyond the arc and made 40% of the teams three pointers.  Since he won’t have as much responsiblity on the court as he did at his previous school, that should make it easier for him to get open and sink shots throughout the season.

The Tigers open regular season play next Monday against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the Fed Ex Forum.
