Shaq Godwin hit a fade a way jumper with eight seconds left on the clock to give The University of Memphis 54-53 lead over the Huskies.   Godwin finished the game with eight points and eight rebounds.  no two points were more important than the two that won the game.   Uconn’s Ryan Boatright missed a last second shot, the Tigers hang onto win.

The win puts Memphis (18-12, 10-7 American Athletic Conference) back in the fifth spot in the AAC standings ahead of UConn (17-12, 10-7 AAC), if the season ended today the fifth spot would earn the Tigers a first round bye in the AAC Tournament next week.

With Austin Nichols out for at least two weeks with an ankle injury somebody has got to step up.  Trashon Burrell and Kedren Johnson were the only two tigers scoring in double figures.  Burrell scored a career-high 22 points on 9-19 shooting, and shot 4-7 from three-point range.  Another player who continues to show signs of improvement is point guard Kedren Johnson. He had one of his best all-around games of the season as he finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, six assists and most importantly no turnovers.

Calvin Godfrey who started for Nichols finished the game with eight points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

The Tigers next game is Sunday at Cincinnati.
