Tigers Did Not Survive The Cyclone

WHAT HAPPENED?  HOW DID THE TIGERS NOT BEAT IOWA?

Before game day even arrived, Offensive Coordinator Darell Dickey accepted the same position at Texas A&M with Jimbo Fisher.  Dickey led this offense in every game this season.  Perhaps, the one game he is not at the helm, that could be the reason the offense couldn’t seem to get it clicking.

Doroland Dorceus has been working extra hard rehabbing hius foot to be back in time for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.  Unfortunately, when the Tigers stepped off of the bus onto Tiger Lane, Dorceus still had the boot on his foot.  The Tigers would have to take on the Cyclones without his services.

Anthony Miller finished the game with less than 100 receiving yards.  If a team can effectively take Miller out of his groove, the Tigers would have to rely on their other weapons.  Running back Darrell Henderson and his speed  were also unavailable on Saturday.  After going through pregame warm ups it was decided that he would not play.

So far we have no Darrell Dickey, no Doroland Dorceus, and no Darrell Henderson.  Let’s continue.

Riley Ferguson threw zero interceptions, but he did miss he target several times.  Some were overthrown.  Perhaps the cold weather had the Tigers moving slower than usual.  Passes that would usually be completions ended up over thrown.  The costliest of the overthrown passes, which late in the 4th quarter, was intended for Phil Mayhue.  On the their second consecutive 4th & 10 the Tigers were going for it.  A completed pass would have easily put the Tigers in field goal range, giving them a 23-21 lead, and quite possibly the win needed to finish off the perfect season in the Liberty Bowl.

This was a game of first negatives for both teams.  The Tigers forced Iowas first fumble of the season and Iowa handed Memphis their first loss in the Liberty Bowl Stadium.

Even though the Cyclones had a height advantage at just about every position that didn’t stop Genard Avery form getting to Iowas QB seven times .
