Women’s Golf Fifth Through First Round at Southern Miss Tournament

 

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Memphis women’s golf team closed its first round at the lady Eagle Invitational in fifth place out of 14 teams with an opening round 308, Monday.

 

In the team competition, sophomore Leighann Cabush leads Memphis in a tie for 7th overall with a round one 75. One stroke back is senior Ashley Kees (76), followed by freshman Emily Goldenstein (78). Kees is tied for 14th through one round, while Goldenstein is tied for 24th. Natalie Turk is tied for 37th with a round one 79, and freshman Michaela Fletcher is tied for 48th with an 81.

 

Western Kentucky leads the team score through the opening round with a 293, followed by South Alabama’s 301. Houston Baptist and Stephen F. Austin are tied for third with a 304, followed by Memphis.

 

In individual competition, Julia Gerlach is tied for seventh overall with a round one 75 (+3). Andrea Cropper is tied for 57th (82, +10), while freshman Megan Beane, competing in her first collegiate competition of her career, is tied for 77th with an 88.

 

With rain predicted in the Hattiesburg area on Tuesday, the teams began their second round play on Monday as soon as their first rounds were complete. Second round results will be posted once play is complete on Tuesday on www.GoTigersGo.com.
