Buccaneers get the Best of the Tigers

University of Memphis Tiger Basketball is finally here.  Wednesday night the Tigers took the court against the Christian Brothers Buccaneers in an exhibition game.  Seemed to be a pretty routine game, right?  The game stays close for the first few minutes and then the Tigers breakaway and maintain at least a ten point lead for the remainder of the game.  Well the Buccaneers had a different plan.  They came to play ball.

Halfway through the first half Memphis has a  17-16 lead CBU.  Shaq Goodwin has 11 of those 17 points.  Sidy Sall and Trey Casey combine for 20 of CBU’s first half points.  Memphis goes into halftime holding a 31-32 deficit.  This is when they go into the locker room,  receive a stern talking to, come back on the court and win the game. Right?

Memphis begins the second half playing more aggressive defense.  The Tigers are able to get some stops and force some turnovers but didn’t really score some points.  With 11:37 on the clock Avery Woodson regains the lead for the tigers with a jump shot.  That is the start of a Memphis 8-0 run.  Over the next ten minutes the Buccaneers fight back to tie the game at 60 with :37  left on the clock.

In overtime the the Tigers and the Bucs trade buckets but the Tigers never regain the lead.  Tigers were outscored 10-14 in Overtime.  Sidy Sall and Trey Casey led the Buccaneers with 20 and 19 points respectively.  The Buccaneers scored 13 points off of turnovers in the first half and that proved to be a big difference in the game.  Shaq Goodwin finished the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  The Tiger bench outscored the Buccs 29-10 but that wasn’t enough to pull off the victory.  The (0-1) Tigers next game is against Wichita Falls. Congrats to the CBU Buc’s you guys didn’t bluff!
