Coach Pastner Radio Show

Monday night, University of Memphis Tigers Basketball coach Josh Pastner addressed the fans at his weekly radio show at the Lynchburg Legends Bar & Grill. He discussed the teams performance in the past two games, looks forward to upcoming games and re assures fans that the team will win a lot of games this season. Stat sheets and ranking information were provided for those in attendance. One of the biggest differences between the victory against Houston and the loss to Tulane is their three point percentage. The Tigers shot 43% from beyond the arc against Houston and 21% against Tulane.
Pastner also stated that ” Late in the game against Tulane, we were able to score but not able to get stops.” Tulane forced 16 Tiger turnovers that resulted in 2 points. Avery Woodson had a great first, half against Houston, to offset poor first halfs by Burrell and Goodwin.

Coach took time to address his nice guy demeanor that so many criticize him for. “Why won’t he yell at the players?” “Why doesn’t he work the refs harder?” “He needs to be harder on the players and light a fire under them.” Well, Coach hears the whispers and one caller even called in to voice a similar opinion.
“I hear the things that some of these coaches say to the refs” said Pastner. “I don’t think that one Human should talk to another human like that, and I definitely don’t think that they should be rewarded with favorable calls when they talk to the refs like that” Pastner added, “Yes, have my conversations with the refs but its strictly about the call. I do not cuss at them or anyone else.”

Pastner also addressed certain trends in College Basketball that the Tigers aren’t immune to. The Tigers lost a lot of veteran talent last season. Next season, the the same young players that everyone is so critical of will be more experienced and when more games. He asked present fans and the ones in radio land to be patient with him and the players as they make this transition. “It’s college basketball and this is what happens. With the exception of a few teams, every now and then you have rebuilding seasons. we are not exempt to this.”

We wish the Tigers Good luck and safe travels to SMU for Thursday’s game. For those not making the trip, fans can come out to Lynchburg Legends to watch the game together. Go Tigers G0!
