MEMPHIS SURVIVES SHOOTOUT WITH UCLA
46,291 fans watched the unranked University of Memphis Tigers upset the 25th ranked UCLA Bruins. UCLA falls to 2-1 while the University of Memphis Tigers improve to 2- 0 on the season.
The Tigers put the first points on the board with a 2 yard touchdown pass from Ferguson to tight end Joey Magnifico. The Bruins even the score with 6:19 left in the first quarter with a 7 yard run from running back Jalen Starks.

UCLA briefly takes the lead during the 2nd quarter with a field goal and a touchdown going up 17-7 over Memphis with 12:42 left in the second quarter. The Tigers respond with a 47 yard touchdown pass from Ferguson to Patrick Taylor, Jr. 17-13.
UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen rushed for a touchdown, leading the game 24-20. With less than 60 seconds left in the first half, wide receiver Anthony Miller reels in a 41 yard pass from Ferguson. The two connect again on the very next play for a 33 yard touchdown. Memphis’ next scoring drive.
The first half ends with Memphis leading UCLA by three points (27-24).
The second half was good ole Memphis Style Shoot out. Ferguson gets off the first shot with a 12 yard touchdown pass to Anthony Miller late in the 3rd quarter. UCLA fires back on a 65 yard completion from Rosen to Andrews. (31-34)
Memphis had to let UCLA know that they weren’t going to be able to keep getting shots off in their house. Tim Hart intercepted one of Rosen’s passes and returned it 60 yards to the end zone. (31-41)
UCLA is wounded but not dead. Rosen fires off a 21 yard pass to Jordan Lasely for a touchdown. (38-41)
Both teams missed their next couple of attempts at the end zone.
Now UCLA thinks they are about to get a “W” in the M-Town because they scored another lil’ touchdown. (45-41) But thats it, clips’s empty.
The Tigers defend their house and hold the Bruins scoreless for the last 11:45. The shot to put UCLA out of their misery would end up being a three yard completion to Phil Mayhue. (48-45)
Riley Ferguson finished the game 23-38 for 398 yards, scoring six touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Tigers most impressive stat line of the game comes from Anthony Miller. Miller has gone from being a walk-on, red shirt freshman in 2013 to receiving for 185 yards and two touchdowns against 25th ranked UCLA. With several NFL scouts in the building, Anthony Miller has definitely thrown his name in the NFL conversation.
Darrell Henderson finished the game 109 yards on 14 attempts.
