No. 9 RANKED TIGERS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH A WIN

When I read that KJ Lawson would be playing his final year of college basketball at Tulane University I was befuddled to say the least. He graduated from Kansas in May, but he still had one year of eligibility left. Just two months before KJ graduated from Kansas, Ron Hunter was announced as the new head coach at Tulane University.

Hunter is taking over the Green Wave basketball program after three losing seasons under the helm of Mike Dunleavy Sr. Ron Hunter has a record of and reputation for improving struggling programs as well as developing talented players to their potential.

KJ Lawson’s basketball talents and Ron Hunters coaching skills are the perfect match for a rebuilding program. Lawson is on the third team of his college basketball career. His journey may not have been ideal or gone as planned, but it is his journey and he has embraced it.

Through the valleys and peaks of his NCAA career, Lawson has gained a wealth of experience & knowledge. That experience and knowledge is what Coach Hunter is relying on to be the foundation of the rebuilding of Tulanes basketball program.

P H O T O S

So it should come as no surprise that, his post game press conference, Coach Hunter expressed his disappointment to KJ being booed when Tulane’s starting lineup was introduced.

Some fans are still salty with the Lawsons and the way that their departure from the Memphis program occurred. If you want to be mad at somebody, be mad at Tom Bowen. And if you are mad, I hope that you never have to make a decision that is best for you and your family.

KJ Lawson was the games leading scorer with 22 points and five rebounds.

This was the most complete team win this season, with five Tigers scoring in double figures. Lester Quinones led the way with 16 points along with three rebounds. D.J. and Precious scored 14 points apiece. Achiuwa also snagged 10 boards, earning him his sixth double double of the season. Damion Baugh (15) and Tyler Harris (12) combined for 27 more Tiger points.

5 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. That was Alex Lomax’s statline. Alex Lomax is the reason the Tigers won this game. He’s the reason the Tiger’s have won several of their games this season. He is by far the most improved player from last season into this season. Lomax has emerged as the floor general for the Tigers. When it’s crunch time and the game is on the line, Alex Lomax has proved that the ball should be in his hands.

Catch Lomax and Tigers back in action at the Fed Ex Forum on the first Saturday of 2020 (1/4/2020) when the Georgia Bulldogs come to town. Ironically, Georgias next opponent when they leave Memphis is Kentucky. Yeah, that same Kentucky that seems scared to get Memphis on their schedule.
