WEEK 2: Melrose @ Covington

COVINGTON-34   MELROSE-19

Melrose takes their (1-0) record into Covington for an 8-3A regional showdown.

Coming off of a Week One victory in Nashville over Pope John Paul, the Melrose Golden Wildcats were feeling pretty good heading intoCovington to face the Chargers.  Quarter back Ahdai Page completed 15 of 34 passing for 192 yards.  Page completed 6 passes to Kendrick Jones for 97 yards and 5 passes to Paris Wilson for 58 yards.  The Chargers out ran the Wildcats to the tune of 482 yards to 26 yards. Page and Wildcats passed for 192 net yards while the Golden Wildcat defense held the Chargers to zero yards passing.  The Chargers totaled 7 more first downs ( 12-19) than the Wildcats.  Paris Wilson scored on a 31 yard pass from Page and Quemon Hayes scored the extra point in the first quarter.  In the second quarter Michael Malone scored on two yard run, but the extra point attempt was blocked.  Ahdai Page finds Kendrick Jones in the end zone on a 28 yard pass in the third, but the two point conversion was unsuccessful.  It was a one point game (20-19) heading into the fourth quarter, but Melrose gave up two touchdowns and failed to score in the quarter.  i week the Golden Wildcats travel back to Nashville to take on Montgomery Bell Academy.
