Maybe Next Time, Next Time

Warriors-100 VS Grizzlies-84

The Grizzlies get an “A” for effort, but still get an “L” for the record books.  This time the Grizzlies only lost to the Golden State Warriors by 16 points.  The Grizzlies played with a higher level of energy intensity throughout the game.  That energy just wasn’t enough.

Apparently Tony Allen took offense to being left unguarded in the two teams previous meeting last week.  Allen scored the Grizzlies first seven points, making jump shots and lay ups.  Allen finished the game with 15 points, four rebounds, one block, and one steal.  We finally got to see Tony Allen doing Tony Allen things: playing first team defense and making shots that normally would make us cringe before the ball even leaves his fingers.

Marc Gasol leads the Grizzlies in scoring with 26 points.  He also passes for three assists , grabbed seven rebounds, stole the ball twice and even made a three pointer.  Zach Randolph was the Grizzlies second leading scorer of the night with 19 points, two assists, and seven rebounds.  Conley was held to four points,  Courtney Lee three points, Matt Barnes three points, and Jeff Green laid the goose egg.

Russ Smith gets in the game earlier than he usually does.  He finished the game with five points, one rebound, and one steal in 13 minutes.  Smith was obviously faster and has quicker legs getting up and down the court.  As his minutes increase and he gets more comfortable in games he will become another reliable option off the bench.  JaMychal Green continued to be effective coming off the bench.  He added nine points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and one stealing his 25 minutes of playing time.

The Grizzlies were down 41-46 at halftime.  The refs were pretty lenient with the calls in the first half of the game.  Early in the third quarter it appears that the refs are about to get the game under control.  First they call a tech on Draymond Green and then call one on Courtney Lee.  The NBA rule book states that an “air-punch” will result in an automatic technical foul.  Well, Steph Curry throws an “air-punch” in dispute of a no-call by the refs.  No technical call was fouled.  Even though there were several questionable calls, can’t place blame on the refs.  The Warriors bench outscored the Grizzlies Bench 35-17.  The Grizzlies shot 20% (3/15) from three point territory compared to the Warriors40.7% (11-27).
