Second Time’s The Charm

GRIZZLIES – 112 VS PACERS – 103

Grizz Nation has  to wait one more night to see their beloved Grizzlies get their first victory of the season.   One night after a blow out loss at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Memphis Grizzlies  are on the road against the Indiana Pacers.  Both teams are looking to redeem themselves from loosing their season opener.  I was late to the  airport and missed the team jet to Indiana.  As a result I’m watching the game or what’s  left of it,  at The Blue Monkey on Madison.

Marc Gasol was the Grizzlies leading scorer with 20 points.  Gas and Randolph snagged eight rebounds each.  Jeff Green scored 12 points including two clutch three pointers to help his team secure the victory.

The third quarter is just underway by the time I make  it to a TV.  The score is much closer than it was at this point last night.  I grab a seat at the bar and Ryan Farrar is seated to my left.  Farrar is an engineer at Geotechnology Inc., citizen of Memphis, and a Grizzlies fan.  He informs me that he hasn’t been paying the closest attention to the game, but he does have his own opinion about the Grizzlies and the season.  Tony Allen gets the start in place of Jeff Green tonight.  In 22 minutes allen scored nine points, snagged seven rebounds, and grabbed four steals.

Although the we are both confident that the Grizzlies will get the win, Farrar is equally concerned tonight as he was last night about the Grizzlies.  “We played a better team last night.  This game should be less difficult than their last,” said Farrar as I attempted to reveal the true source of his concern. “Flip flopping back and forth with the starting line up makes me feel that we are not quite sure what our strategy is going to be going forward.  I understand giving Jeff Green a chance but you’ve got to give him a real chance” says Farrar.  Although Green scored more points,  we got the “W” with Allen as a starter.

I think that Ryan will be less concerned as the season progresses.  The Grizzlies have had several roster changes since the end of last season.  The current roster hasn’t been together that long: a short training camp and pre season.  It will take playing some real games to find the most cohesive and  effective line up combinations.  Farrah says “things looks stagnant at times, like  everyone is not quite sure where they should be.”  He agrees that the stagnation may decrease as Coach Joerger figures out how to make all of the pieces to the puzzle fit in their proper place.

The Grizzlies are back in action at home Saturday night to host the Brooklyn Nets.  Single game, 15,22 game pack tickets are still available for the 2015-16 season.  For ticket information visit Grizzlies. com or call 901-888-HOOP (4667).
