HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Led by two golfers in the top five and four in the top 20, the University of Memphis women’s golf team grabbed its third tournament title of the season and the second of the spring at the Bearcat Spring Classic, Sunday. A third round 290, the team’s best round of the tournament, secured a 25 stroke advantage for the win, as Memphis finished with an 892. The Lady Tigers led wire to wire in the 17-team tournament field.

Freshman Emily Goldenstein posted a career-best second place finish, shooting a day three 75 (+3) to finish with a 220, seven strokes behind Bradley’s Danielle Lemek for individual medalist honors. The second place finish is the second career top five finish for Goldenstein and is the fourth top 10 finish in eight collegiate career events.

Sophomore Leighann Cabush also added a top five finish. Cabush had three birdies on the day against just one bogey, and finished with a day three 70 (-2) to move up to fourth in the individual standings with a 222 (75-77-70). The day three 70 matches Cabush’s career best competitive round score. She posted a pair of 70s in the season-opening Memphis Intercollegiate back in September.

Freshman Michaela Fletcher shaved eight strokes off her second round score on Sunday, posting two front side birdies to finish at 71 (-1). Her 226 (76-79-71) helped her finish tied for sixth overall, her fifth top 10 this season in seven events.

Julia Gerlach finished 17th with a day three 74, giving her a 230 for the tournament (79-77-74). The 230 ties as her season-best low 54-score hole (last at the Memphis Intercollegiate in September) and gives her a second straight top 20 finish after posting a career-best seventh place finish at the Southern Miss Invitational.

Senior Ashley Kees finished just one spot outside the top 20, posting a 232 (77-75-80) to finished tied for 21st overall.

Memphis has one regular season tournament remaining before the American Athletic Conference Championships. The Lady Tigers will be back in action Apr. 3-5th at the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss.  Click here >> Results<<
