Hawks Swoop In & Steal A Win

Monmouth Hawks VS University of Memphis Tigers

Tuesday, December 13

 FedExForum (Memphis, Tennessee)

The Monmouth Hawks and the University of Memphis Tigers face off for the first time Tuesday night.

The 8-2 Hawks and the 7-2 Tigers didn’t just play a game, they battled on the hardwood.  The Tigers trailed early,  but recovered the lead and headed to the locker room with a 10 point advantage at halftime.  With 8:16 left on the clock an Austin Tilghim free throw puts the Hawks up 68-67.  Four minutes later a Jimario Rivers free throw gives the Tigers a one point (74-73) lead.

For the second game in a row,  low percentage 3 point shooting plagues the Tigers.  K J Lawson, Markel Crawford, and Craig Randall  each shoot 1/2 from 3 point range in the 1st half contributing to the 33.3 3 point shooting percentage.  Dedric Lawson (1/4)  made the Tigers’ (1/7) only 3 pointer in the second half.  That 14.3% performance lowered the Tigers’ 3 point shooting percentage to 25%.  Christian Kessee was recruited for his ability to shoot the ball,  maybe we’ll get the opportunity to see him attempt more than one shot per game in the upcoming match-ups.  Both teams exchanged the lead until we were all tied  again at 79.  A Dedric Lawson foul followed by a Markel Crawford sent the Hawks to the free throw line allowing them to sneak out of the Fed Ex Forum with a 82-79 victory, improving their record to 9-2 and the Tigers fall to 7-3.

Five Tigers scored in double digits: Dedric (18) , Chad (12), K J (13), Jeremiah (14), and Markel (12).  Dedric Lawson  snagged a game high 14 rebounds.
