Tigers win two in a row

For the first time this season the Memphis Tigers Mens Basketball team wins two games in a row. Tuesday night (12/15/14) they beat the North Carolina Central Eagles 81-47. Tonight they beat the South Carolina Upstate Spartans 83-73.

The Tigers had five players in double digit scoring. Trashon Burrell racked up a double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Pookie Powell and Avery Woodson chipped in 16 points apiece giving them both career highs in this game. Austin Nichols had a good game with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 blocks. Nick King came off the bench with 10 points.

South Carolina shot 33.3% in the first half compared to Memphis’ 43.3%. The Tigers put together a 14-0 run in the first half. That run helped them secure a 42-29 lead going into half time. SC Upstate got as close as 63-61 midway through the second half. Memphis went on another run,13-1, and were back in control of the game. The Tigers, who are not a great three point shooting team, went 11 for 21 from behind the line.

The Tigers next game is Saturday 12/20 against Oral Roberts at the FedEx Forum.
